Office Safety & Scheduling Procedures Update

IMPORTANT: Your safety and health is our highest priority. Our staff members are working diligently to maintain a safe environment for all our patients who are receiving care at our office:

  1. If you have a sight or life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or contact your nearest Emergency Room.
  2. Due to the large number of patients returning to our office since the pandemic, we had to update our scheduling procedures so that we can ensure the safety of all our patients and staff. Typically, we are able to reply to most inquiries within about 1-2 business days.
  3. If you are new to our office, to streamline the scheduling process, please kindly email us at odtong@bxbsecure.com with the patient’s name, age, who referred you, and a 1-2 sentence description of your main concerns. All services are by appointment only. 
  4. If you have been to our office before, please email us at odtong@bxbsecure.com, text us at (626) 565-3534, or leave a voice message at (626) 578-9685 if you have any questions. Typically, we are able to reply to most inquiries within about 1-2 business days.
  5. PRECAUTIONS REGARDING COVID-19 AND OTHER ILLNESSES:
    1. If within the past 5-7 days you have experienced any symptoms (other than the COVID vaccine reactions), been in close contact with anyone with COVID, traveled internationally or out-of-state, or been on an airplane, please inform our staff immediately.
    2. Per the current City of Pasadena and Los Angeles County requirements, all patients and staff members will be subject to temperature screening and still required to wear face masks at all times during the visit.

Dr. Derek Tong O.D., FAAO, FCOVD, FNORA, Clinic Director

Dr. Derek Tong graduated with Honors from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University, where he also completed residency training in Pediatric Optometry and Vision Therapy. He has been practicing optometry since 1998 and received Fellowships from the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), and the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA). He is a Board-Certified by the American Board of Optometry (ABO) and has faculty appointments as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of both the Marshall B. Ketchum University and the Western University of Health Sciences.

Dr. Tong is the Founder, Clinic Director and Post-Doctorate Supervisor of the Center for Vision Development Optometry Inc. in Pasadena, CA. The center receives referrals from doctors, educators, child development specialists, and rehabilitation professionals. The center is known for its friendly and caring staff and focuses on helping people of all ages with learning difficulties, developmental delays, autism, lazy eyes, concussions, traumatic brain injury, and many other vision disorders. Professionally, he is trustee and past-president of the San Gabriel Valley Optometric Society. He had served as a school board member at Arcadia Christian School and has been a children’s leader at his local Bible Study Fellowship since 2009. Since 1999, he has lectured at national optometric conferences and published numerous articles in scientific journals.
